Originally Python is a double-sided revolver calibrated for powerful Magnum .357 ammunition. Also known as "Combat Magnum". It was presented for the first time in 1955, and its purpose was the luxury revolver segment. It is a recognized revolver due to its precision, smooth movement and solid construction.

Some firearm collectors and writers such as Jeff Cooper, Ian V. Hogg, Chuck Hawks, Leroy Thompson and Renée Smeets have described Python as one of the best revolvers ever made.
